Short Story Sonny Blues

In James Baldwin’s, Sonny’s Blues, he utilizes a wide range of images all through his short story to introduce the general topic of enduring to the peruser. He utilizes images, for example, music, characters outward appearances and the nearness of ice, light and obscurity. In the earliest reference point of the story when the storyteller is perusing the paper and he runs over the updates on his sibling, Sonny, he says, â€Å"A incredible square of ice got settled in my midsection and continued softening there gradually throughout the day long†. (Baldwin 600) He likewise says â€Å"†¦it was an extraordinary sort of ice.It continued dissolving, sending streams of ice water all here and there my veins, yet it never got less. † (Baldwin 600) This isn't simply the main time that the ice introduces itself. It returns when the storyteller meets one of Sonny’s companions who is likewise a medication someone who is addicted, and again later when Sonny i s over for supper with the narrator’s family. The ice that shows up at whatever point the storyteller feels an awkward or excruciating circumstance speaks to how the storyteller is unequipped for managing his own feelings well. The ice likewise permits the peruser to identify with how the storyteller feels about how his sibling is driving his life.Another image Baldwin utilizes all through Sonny’s Blues is light and haziness. All through the story there is a difference of light and obscurity. For instance, in the main section of the story, Sonny’s Blues Baldwin composes, â€Å"I gazed at it in the swinging lights of the metro vehicle, and in the appearances and groups of the individuals, and in my own face, caught in the haziness which thundered outside. † (Baldwin 599) This differentiations the daintiness and the murkiness. It shows the difference between his own torment and his general surroundings and the enduring of the world.Another case of delicacy and haziness Baldwin utilizes in the short story is the point at which the narrator’s mother is reviewing the account of the narrator’s father and his sibling she says â€Å"there was a moon that night, it was splendid like day. † (Baldwin 607) This is the point at which the narrator’s father and his sibling are making some acceptable memories and strolling home. This brilliance of the moon is utilized to speak to the light, which speaks to all the expectation and beneficial things throughout everyday life. The narrator’s mother later reviews, â€Å"he says he at no point ever considered anything to be dim as that street after the lights of that vehicle had left. (Baldwin 608) Referring to after the narrator’s father’s sibling had been hit and murdered. The shade of the men’s skin additionally speaks to the differentiation among light and haziness. The men that murdered the narrator’s father’s sibling were all wh ite and the other two men were darker looking. This is likewise a case of the differentiating of light and dim. This shows how the distinction of something in a similar circumstance can both have two unique outcomes. Implying that both the light men and the dull men were smashed. They were each additionally having some good times. The circumstances were both comparative, however the final products of every circumstance were very different. One of the dull men lost their life to the light men. The obscurity is utilized to speak to the tormenting and dull minutes in the characters lives. The murkiness anyway is constantly balanced out with softness. Much the same as the dull street was balanced out with the gentility of the vehicle lights. This light is utilized to mean wellbeing and solace, while the obscurity speaks to the strife additionally hoping to obliterate that security and solace. Another way Baldwin represents the general subject of enduring is through the character’s outward appearances and interactions.Baldwin composes â€Å"And I watched her face as she laughingly reacted to something somebody said to her, despite everything holding time to the music. At the point when she grinned one saw the young lady, one detected the damned, despite everything battling ladies underneath the battered essence of the semi-prostitute. † (Baldwin 602) This shows significantly under her â€Å"battered face† there was as yet a brief look at when she was youthful. The storyteller can consider her to be a youthful guiltless young lady. This shows the peruser that there is trust even in affliction. Baldwin is additionally attempting to express what is on his mind that despite the fact that one may endure, the enduring won't change the past and whom you are or have become.Another case of how Baldwin consolidates the outward appearances of his characters to help advance the general subject of enduring is the point at which the storyteller is on the tram in the initial not many sentences of the short story. He composes, â€Å"I gazed at it in the swinging lights of the metro vehicle, and in the essences of the assortments of the individuals, and in my own face, caught in the dimness. † (Baldwin 600) This represents not exclusively does the storyteller feel and see enduring inside himself and his own face, yet he likewise observes it inside the essences of others and the environmental factors around him. This additionally demonstrates that the general impact of enduring is noticeable to one who is enduring themselves, similar to that of the storytellers. Baldwin likewise advances the topic of Sonny’s Blues by utilizing the nearness of music. The whole short story is stacked with events of music. The general title of the story even contains music. â€Å"Sonny’s Blues†, advances the tone and subject of enduring all through the whole story. It furnishes the peruser with data that there will be enduring in the story. Giving them a thought of what is to preceded in any event, being perused. Another case of music is Sonny’s developing adoration for playing the piano. The storyteller states â€Å"†¦Sonny was so genuine about his music and how, when he rolled in from school, †¦he went directly to that piano and remained there until suppertime. †, â€Å"He was at the piano throughout the day Saturday and throughout the day Sunday. † (Baldwin 612) This tells the peruser of Sonny’s love for music. It outlines how the music is Sonny’s security and permits him to not endure. At the point when Baldwin makes it understood to the peruser that Isabel and her mom become worn out on the music, â€Å"it wasn’t like living with an individual by any means, it resembled living with sound. Also, the sound didn’t sound good to her, didn’t sound good to any of them †normally. (Baldwin 612) This demonstrates music can both mend enduring yet additionally make it. The music for Sonny was a wellbeing. To Sonny the music caused him to feel quiet and assisted with dying down his torment. It wasn’t until after Sonny quit playing the piano and his records that he started to genuinely feel the intensity of his anguish. In spite of the fact that the music was a medication to Sonny’s enduring, it was the reason for languishing over Isabel and her mom. This enduring caused Isabel’s mother to snap and shout at Sonny. This made Sonny quit playing the piano and consequently the genuine enduring began.Another case of misery and music is the point at which the storyteller observes the gathering on the corner. He watches the battered individuals play their music and notification their misery. He says, â€Å"As the singing filled the air the watching, listening faces experienced a change, the eyes concentrating on something inside; the music appeared to relieve a toxic substance out of them; and time appeared, abo ut, to fall away from the dour, hostile, battered countenances, as if they were escaping back to their first condition, while longing for their last. † (Baldwin 615) Showing again how music can be a security and a rescuer to Sonny as well as others as well.By the storyteller expressing this it shows that it is perceptible of the adjustment in articulation music brings as it diminishes the sufferings of the individuals who play. â€Å"Sonny’s fingers filled the air with life, his life. † (Baldwin 620) Near the finish of Baldwin’s story Sonny plays his music by and by. To most, the music Sonny plays is simply for diversion. Be that as it may, to some it is a story, Sonny’s story. As Sonny plays, the storyteller sees the things his sibling has experienced and felt. While Sonny plays the storyteller sees the two his brother’s enduring just as his own.

Microsoft: Thank Goodness it is a Monopoly Essay -- essays papers

Microsoft: Thank Goodness it is a Monopoly Numerous individuals, with the administration are attempting to mark Microsoft as a restraining infrastructure. Why would that be any defer going around doing that? There is no motivation to mark Microsoft as a syndication. There is a piece of monopolistic rivalry and flexibly request following up on this case. The entire preliminary is about the free web program, Internet Explorer, that Microsoft gives out free and incorporates with its Operating framework, Windows. Netscape does likewise showcasing of its item aside from that it doesn't have any working framework to sell with. Netscape is a generally more seasoned program and preceding Internet Explorer, there was just a single program, Netscape. There have been innumerous redesigns and more current renditions of these programs since Internet Explorer’s dispatch in the market. The PC business is exceptionally unstable in itself. Any educated software engineer could grow better working framework or program sooner rather than later. In the event that his/her item is acceptable and he/she have legitimate advertising accessible he/she could turn into the following monopolistic. The business itself changes with its needs. Innumerous organizations in the past have delighted in monopolist markets like IBM, Intel, and AT&T. Sunrise, Sunset

Sunrise, Sunset Ben Bell Sophomore MIT-Israel Program Internship: Ben Gurion University, Prof. Ilana Natan This post was first published on Ben Bell in Israel: http://benbellinisrael.wordpress.com/ I was trying to think of a clever title for my daily activities and was reminded of the musical, Fiddler on the Roof. If you’ve never seen it, then REMEDY THAT. ;) And while I’m not going to be in a Jewish wedding anytime soon, so far all I can say about the summer is, “swiftly fly the years”. Be’er Sheva is a quiet, humble city. When I first arrived, it didn’t take but a morning and early afternoon to see the sights. There are a few attractions to the town that make it pretty homey. Every Wednesday there is a street festival in the old city with musicians, artists, and sellers of trinkets galore. It’s a nice change of pace from the school year, which is practically non-stop from reg day to the last final. However, the Sabbath (institutionalized here in Israel) is something that forces you to stop. It can be frustrating if you want to go do, but it’s a nice excuse to just be. Ben-Gurion University makes this place a college town. Students are in the midst of finals right now and soon, I’m told, things will be even more laid-back (!) when they all evacuate. There are about 20,000 students from all over Israel studying for their bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD. The vast majority of the students complete their army service (2 years for women, 3 for men) and even a gap year before they start college, so most know exactly what they want to do when they get out. It means that the MISTI kids are precisely thatâ€"kids. When I first met my adviser, she must have mentioned how young I was at least three times. I live in the university dorms which are right by the campus. They’re pretty standardâ€"laundry, vending machines, over-priced mini-mart, etc. They are all suites of four singles that share a kitchenette, common area, and bathroom. My roommates are all PhD students/post-docs so I’m again the youngin’. I’ve been able to get to know a couple of them better because I actually see them, but one of them remains elusive. I work in a lab in the Soroka Medical Center, which is across the street from BGU’s main campus. The lab studies cell death: apoptosis, necrosis, and autophagy. My project looks at a protein, humanin, that demonstrates anti-necrotic properties in neurons from brains of Alzheimer’s patients. Humanin is thought to work synergistically with other anti-necrotic compounds that are widely used in drugs today. The hope is that studying these interactions could lead to the development of better treatments for ischemic injuries from heart attack, strokes, and liver damage. TL;DR: I am doing a screen among known drugs for necrosis against a potential drug to see if they work together against cell death. The timeline of an ideal Sunday-Thursday: 7:30â€"Wake up, roll over and fall asleep 7:50â€"Wake up again, play a song on my kindle to wake me up (This morning was Rodrigo y Gabriela’s “Savitri“) 8:00â€"Shower/Get Ready 8:20â€"Breakfast: Chocolate Branflakes + Cornflakes, or Honey Bunches of Oats (expensive, definitely a treat) 8:45â€"Walk to Work 9:00â€"Arrive in Lab! Switch media for cells 10:00â€"Start treatment of cells 10:45â€"Induce necrosis with KCN 11:00â€"During the 5 hour incubation time, I meet with my grad student and professor who advise me on the overall direction. I have lunch with  people in my lab and attend talks or lectures. I prepare plates for tomorrows experiments, feed, and take care of my cells. Its nice to not be juggling classes and lab and everything else during the regular semester. 4:00â€"Waiting is done! Close up the experiment 5:30â€"All done. Time to leaveeeee The evenings are always pretty variable. I got connected with a student Bible study that meets biweekly, the MISTI kids are trying out a lot of the restaurants in the city and starting a weekly film club, and of course, there’s so much Facebook to keep up with (only half-joking unfortunately). I am honestly trying to use the free time I have well. I don’t necessarily mean squeezing every last drop out of my time either. The summer is a great opportunity to rest and I want to do that. It’s also a time to finish up projects, work out, and complete things that I would love to do during the year but simply get squeezed out of my Google Calendar. The weekends are an incredible opportunity to travel. Having grown up in a Christian home, Ive heard about Israel forever. Its really neat now to have a mental image for many of the places in the Bible. I feel like a master of the train system in the country, which isnt saying much as Israel is only the size of New Jersey! Because there are MISTI students spread throughout, there are plenty of couches on which I can crash, whether Im visiting Haifa or Tel Aviv or Jerusalem. Couches are sometimes overrated, like when my friends and I went camping on the shore of the Sea of Galilee! The past few days, all of the MISTI MIT-Israel students came together for a 5 day seminar learning about the culture, technology, and society in Israel. It was incredibly meaningful visiting the Yad VaShem Holocaust Museum, or hearing from parents who have lost children in the Arab-Israeli conflict and are working toward reconciliation. We visited companies that reflect the unique way Israel succeeds in business despite its size and learned about the turbulent political climate from retired Gen. Danny Yatom, former director of the Mossad (Israeli CIA). Beyond that, we had what seemed to be an unlawful amount of fun playing on the beach, going to an Israeli concert, and rafting on the Jordan River. Basically, this summer is unbelievableI continue to be amazed that a program like MISTI even exists. Ive been well prepared (and well-funded I might add) to have to time of my life seeing how research science is done in a very different society. The only thing that could be more rockin is the fact that its only half-way done! :)

New demographics like two- income households and single parent households. Wide varieties of dishes are going to be offered to cater to different taste buds. Hassle free and attractive packaging of our product will set us apart from our competition. WEAKNESS: Acceptability of this type of food by the potential customers. A general perception prevails that preserved food is unhealthy. Lack of awareness about the product. OPPORTUNITIES: Poor distribution of the competitorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s product can act as an opportunity for us. Out of 6 local supermarkets researched only 2 had the product available. Lack of advertising by the competitor can also act as an opportunity in order to attract customers. Diversify into other business lines like frozen foods and canned foods. Export our products to countries like U.K and U.S.A which has a large market for ready to eat meals. THREATS: Only one competitor present in the market and the moment namely freshmate. Other threats include frozen foods like k nà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s, menus, low priced food restaurants like dogar, maggi noodles. THREAT OF NEW ENTRANTS: The market of our product is such that there is some threat of new entrants because the market seems very attractive due to only one direct competitor (Freashmate) in the local market. The other attractiveness for the new entrants is that the segmentation is also much defined. The product differentiation is also another important point because there is always a chance of a new entrant introducing something new in the ready to eat meals category. Then the product is not very expensive and it is a general routine product so the switching cost of the consumers is not high. One barrier to entry is the initial set up cost which is slightly high and so it can somehow reduce the threat of new entrants. Target Market and Consumer Profile For a company to accomplish success in its marketing efforts it is important for it to realize the need for segmentation. Segmentation can be defined as dividing a market into smaller groups with distinct needs, characteristics, or behavior that might require separate marketing strategies or mixes (kotler et al.13th edition). In todays world it would be wrong to assume that a company can cater to everyone in the market hence it is important for a company new or existing to segments its markets. Segmentation can be done based on several factors namely demographics, psycho graphics, geographic and behavioral. The market can be segmented in the following categories Target Market and Consumer Profile The market can be segmented in the following categories Demographic Age(18-24), (24-36) GenderMale, female Family size3 and more persons Family life cycleSingle, Married with children Income30,000 and plus EducationCollege, University LifestyleBusy, Social Psycho graphic Social Classmiddle class, upper middle class Socio economic ClassA1, A2,B* AttitudesQuality minded, looking for convenience Behavioral Occasionsregular BenefitsGood quality, good taste, Convenience User Status First time user PRICE AND DISTRIBUTION PRICING: Price plays a very important role in the success of any product. Our product Mamaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s meals which is a ready to eat meal has only one direct competitor in the market while there are many other close substitutes. We are going to use a competitive pricing strategy because the price of our competitor is reasonable enough and another point is that we have an edge on Freshmate due to better and more impressive packaging which will look more hygienic, so the customers can get a better product in same price as that of Freshmate. Our traditional line of Mamaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s meals will be available in two different SKUs, a serving for 2 and a serving for 4. Same goes for the Continental and Chinese cuisine line. The price of the traditional line SKU which will serve to 2 will be between Rs.225 to 250 and the SKU which will serve to 4 will be between Rs.300 to Rs.325. The Continental and Chinese line SKU serving to 2 will range between 300 to 350 and the SKU for 4 will be within Rs.400 to 450. DISTRIBUTION: The distribution of a product matters a lot because the more convenient it is for the consumers to buy your product from the market the higher the chances of success. In the case of our product, the distribution plays a very important role because the product of our direct competitor is hardly available in the market à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Mamaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s mealsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ is the product used on daily basis so we decided that we will place our product in grocery stores and bakeries as well so that the product will be in the range on our potential customers. We will also place our product in big stores or malls like CITIC Plaza, Guangzhou SM City Chengdu, Chengdu SM City Jinjiang, Jinjiang SM Lifestyle Centre, Zibo Hundred Years City We are going to use the above distribution channel because distribution in our competitive edge so we want to make sure that the product is reached to our customers and is distributed in all the places we actually want to so for that reason we are going to distribute our product our self to the retailers.

How Can You Help Your Child Overcome Anxiety - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 6 Words: 1673 Downloads: 3 Date added: 2019/03/26 Category Psychology Essay Topics: Anxiety Essay Did you like this example? Introduction About 20% of teenagers suffer from depression on their way to adulthood and now more are due to the spread of the internet and the easy access to cyber-bullying by those they know and complete strangers as well. However while some do grow out of it without help, others need a bit of a push to get out of their mental shell keeping enclosed in something that feels like an endless hole, a constant sink. And sometimes those who need to give them that push are their parents, but how can parents really help? How can they actually put a positive impact onto this dark moment in their kids life?. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "How Can You Help Your Child Overcome Anxiety?" essay for you Create order Global Perspective While this planet is evolving, so are the people living in it. In this whole world mental disabilities like depression or anxiety are sky-rocketing especially in teens between ages of 12 and older, take America, for example, according to those in the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and the Universitys Mailman School of Public Health in Columbia, rates of teen depression and anxiety started to rise at an incredible rate within the years of 2005 and 2015. Since that was during 2015 it is most likely that, along with the advancements in technology, that by 2020 this will not only be a simple occurrence and instead become an worldwide epidemic. There are parents all over the world, and while some are living in problematic areas where they need to work more than others and dont have enough time to genuinely take care of their children, while they still do care they need to earn more money in order to support their children financially. But they can still look out for a lot of symptoms most dont realize their kids are going through, and all these slight changes are things even children themselves should be looking out for. Such as, a sudden change in the amount of food they eat, like the quantity decreasing or increasing, seeing them deny food with reasons like I lost my appetite or I already ate. This is very unhealthy but most often parents all around the world usually assume that their child is just trying out a new diet or just doesnt feel hungry in that moment. Other symptoms are like sudden outburst of anger or getting irritated or angry easier and at more insignificant things. Often having abrupt snaps at people in the ir life, distancing themselves from friends and family, keeping them at arms length. Especially with wanting their kids to go through school and have a better future than they did. But in countries that have an overall higher rate of teenagers gaining depression and anxiety parents should be looking out for the symptoms I have previously mentioned. The highest overall country with the most depression rates is India with China and USA following close behind, however for countries with higher anxiety rates the tables turn into China being first with India and USA following at 2nd and 3rd. In countries like America there are a lot of therapies that parents try to send their kids into or kids go in by their own will to help themselves with their mental problems or to get diagnosed / checkup. On one side therapy can really help a child but on the other it can simply make things worse with children feeling worse after having explained it all and putting all their fears and emotions out th ere to a stranger they hardly know. National Perspective According to the study that the World Health Organization coordinated, Indonesia, the country in which I, and many others, live in, is in the 4th place for the country with most deaths due to the behavioral disorder that is scientifically diagnosed as depression and is in 5th place for the most disease from anxiety. From an interview hosted by ncdalliance featuring the Chairman of Indonesian Psychiatric Association (PDSKJI) Eka Viora it is said that an astonishing 3.7 percent of Indonesias population has to endure depression during their youth. That is approximately 9 million people with depression and an extra 8 million whom suffer with anxiety, with some obviously being teens and children or young adults. While there are many hotlines for people who suffer from this to call, that doesnt entirely fix the problem at hand, that millions of people are under going this kind of mental unstableness that they have almost zero control since depression was studied to be relatively genetic an d so far in Indonesian and in fact the whole world , permanent cures havent been found. While anti-depressants are available they come at a price and for those who cant afford a physiatrist they cant get a prescription and therefor cant obtain the medicine. The average cost of a bottle of antidepressants like Zoloft and Prozac range from 39 dollars to a large 74 dollars. A month. While seeming like a temporary fix it also comes with several side affects such as nausea, increased appetite, fatigue and insomnia just to name a few. Personal Perspective From what I could gather from all the research I went through I found out that parents really have a very big part in someones mental health. With all of it Possible Outcomes and Scenarios There are hundreds of possible complications emerging if even a small thing was to go wrong, little ripples can create problematic waves. Many of those dilemmas is one most parents secretly fear deep down, their child committing self-sacrifice, also known as, suicide. This would be one of the worst endings to a kids life, but witnessing them struggle and go through traitorous highs and triecious lows, similar to self-harm and a constant thought of wanting to end it. With worse to come if the children are unfortunate and was gifted with parents whom couldnt care less about a childs mental state and would simply let them be, without these guardians to look up to children often fall deeper into this mayhem and end up worsening their already terrible diagnosis. A child could very well also be depressed and suffer from anxiety due to the ways their parents treated them along with the fact the most schools around the world either have horrific bullying classes which lead people to insanity and to have them jump or end it with a knife, some schools also have abusive teachers and faculty members which shouldnt be anywhere near kids. With all of these parts coming into play it almost seems like there is no escape, but truly there is, multiple ways of doing so, in fact. Possible courses of action There are many ways to nip this problem in the bud, some including anti-depressants and professional help from a therapist. Personal response I suppose my life has been pretty smooth through out it all, with a few bumps but nothing bad really happens. And Im fortunate to have parents like my own that dont cut the crap when it comes to their kid. I had a few bad days and went through my own small depression with short relapses now and then, luckily for me I never needed to take medication or needed any kind of professional help. Through out it all, I found that my friends were the biggest help and not so much my parents, while they were there for me they never really helped. I tried opening up and they didnt say much, and when I spoke about my problems they simply gave a straight forward answer and didnt help emotionally more so physically. But without them I wouldnt have become who I am now, which in the results of the 16personalities test happens to be an INTJ, introverted, nurturing, thinker and a judger. Which I can, now, proudly say I am. During the times of relapse my father tended to be on the more cold side of the s pectrum which many work on many children, apparently me as well, choosing against being a shoulder to cry on and instead being someone who would give me the cold, hard truth whether I wanted it or not. Often opting to choose telling me how to fix my problems and getting to the root of everything and telling to man up, or in my case woman up. While most of this treatment did work, I found myself falling into a deeper hole, because of envy on how others have parents who treated them sweetly. But in the end, Im glad I have my parents who pushed to my breaking point and broke me into something I never thought I could be. Similar to a Matryoshka doll. This way of reaction to when a child opens up isnt something I would recommend all parents to do, however every child is different and should be all treated with the rights of any human and as parents they should be treated with kindness and warmth as a default. Firstly parents need to have a very close relationship with their children, while parents cant expect kids to open up to them with out a very close friendship and trust, families all around the globe should already be close enough so that the members can feel safe to open up to others. Now onto how parents are supposed to deal with this, if their children show signs of possibly having it. Its natural for parents to be worried when their children display signs of unstableness or the lack of will to live, however very few times do parents actually acknowledge these little changes their child shows. While most adjustments are very common like those I have previously mentioned and are easier to notice, this reason is one that very few people realize. The blanking of the eyes, looking into the eye of someone who is going through something difficult or have lost hope often seems blank, or as if all the twinkle it once had has disappeared or vanished between a period of time. But for one to realize this disorder by themselves if often found out by the constant or reoccurring thoughts of death and suicide.

The good thing about online dating is that people can choose who they want to get to know better just by looking at personal profiles posted with pictures, personal interests and hobbies, etc. However, meeting someone through the internet takes time and communication is limited within the range of the computer. Moreover, people can easily pretend to be someone they are not, without anyone knowing. (Dunn) Although competing against these reputable and conventional online dating services is far-fetched because of their worldwide popularity and established client base, other dating alternatives such as dating through the phone are still more convenient and personal. Why should we spend our time sitting in front of the computer waiting for online dating services to pick out people who are compatible with our profiles? The thing is even if online dating services generate a list of thousands of people who are compatible with our profiles, are we going to spend our time getting to know all these people, when time and effort should be spent on building a stable relationship that will last longer? Dating by phone is the closest alternative to personal dating. People can speak directly to each other without limits. Moreover, personal communication allows people to communicate clearly and talk about everything they are thinking of. Conversing through phone is also easier and more convenient because people are able to talk through their mobile phones while at the same time go around for other chores or activities that they want to attend. The concept of dating by phone sprang up because it seems like everyone is looking for love. If we watch television, read magazines, or just to talk to other people we know, there will always be a topic or theme about dating, matchmaking, love, relationships, and even marriage. Although there are many other phone-dating services online, such as MegaMates. com, tango personals, Live links, etc. there are still other additions and improvements that can be done in order to reinvent the existing phone-dating services available at present. The concept of dating by phone shall be established by developing a phone dating service company. It shall start as a small company that will be made available online, by telephone and mobile phone, or by personal membership, not only in a particular country but also internationally. The company shall be called â€Å"Let’s Talk About Love,† starting up with a small staff that handles personal membership, phone calls for subscriptions, and sales and advertising. People who are interested to become a member have the option to visit the company to fill up membership forms and finally for an audio recording over their profile that shall be available for match seekers who subscribe to the company as well. For callers, an 1800 number shall be made available for them. Once they call the company, they shall be asked to prompt in details such as being a first time user, answering of survey questions and audio recording their profile by phone as well. Online users who visit the website and are interested to join as members are able to fill up forms over the internet and send audio recording of their profile or to call the number of the company if they are unable to do the recording through the computer. The profiles answered through the forms and the surveys shall be kept in a single database in the computer for future reference and for matchmaking purposes. Once the company finds a match, members shall receive a call in order to listen to the audio recording of the matched person on the other line. If the person wants to get to know the other person on the line, the personal number shall be given so they can start conversing after the first call. Members can also choose to receive a list of compatible people with their profile. They can choose whose audio recorded profile to listen to and whose number to call. If the other person agrees to communicate with them, then they will start up a two-way conversation over the phone. The good thing about this concept is it leans toward the human element of personal communication. Listening to the other person speak allows people to understand and get to know what kind the other person is. In contrast, reading profiles over online dating services is impersonal and ambiguous. â€Å"Let’s Talk About Love† is different from all other phone-dating services available online for people who are looking to establish romantic relationships. The usual phone dating services are only existent online and profiles are seen only through the internet, numbers to call are made available directly to them. â€Å"Let’s Talk About Love† aims to make phone dating services more personal by allowing members to do audio recording messages of their profiles, and communication is simply done by calling. This medium becomes more personal. Moreover, the company wishes to incorporate new mobile phone technologies available nowadays. The company operates for both telephones and mobile phones. To make it more personal the company plans to team up with mobile phone providers and service network providers such as ATT, Nokia, Samsung, T-Mobile, Cingular, etc. to make â€Å"Let’s Talk About Love† services more personal and closer to face-to-face interaction. The company plans to offer personalized telephone units and mobile phones from these companies directly to members for advertising purposes and to get large companies to invest in the business. Selling phones and mobile phones from mobile phone companies allows users to purchase a phone, which is directly connected, to â€Å"Let’s Talk About Love. † For instance, just pressing the numbers 1-4-3 directly connects the caller to the voice mailbox for new messages from the company and their phone-dates. The 3G technology is also popular nowadays. Selling mobile phones with 3G technology and telephones with screens for live phone chats allows callers to see whom they are speaking to. (â€Å"3G Phones†) This is a great way to improve the usual phone dating service available for people. Aside from talking to their phone-dates, members may also get to see them. All they have to do is to purchase 3G phones manufactured by popular mobile phone companies that are tied up with â€Å"Let’s Talk About Love† in order to get full services from the company. Perhaps, partnership with mobile phone companies will allow them to produce a â€Å"Let’s Talk About Love† mobile phone edition, maybe packed with â€Å"Let’s Talk About Love† logos, wallpapers and ring tones with love themes, or mobile phones with red or pink casings, etc. This is a good form of advertising both for mobile phone companies and â€Å"Let’s Talk About Love. † Partnership with service network providers such as T-Mobile or Cingular will follow the same concept. For online advertising, teaming up with search engines such as Google or Yahoo! , like what T-mobile have done (Boswell). Once an online website is established over the Internet, teaming up with search engines allows the company to be visible for online users. Once online users search for tags such as love, dating, relationships, marriage, etc. the search engine will generate â€Å"Let’s Talk About Love† website as one of the top results. Of course, banner advertisements and pop-ups is also a good way to advertise over the internet. Works Cited â€Å"3G Phones. † 2008. Tuberculosis

Question: Explaining the function of the target enzyme HSaD within tuberculosis (TB). Answer: Tuberculosis (TB) is a widespread bacterial disease which is caused by different strains of mycobacterium, mainly Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is highly infectious fatal disease transmitted through various means like air, or when people having active TB infection cough, sneezes. After infecting the body, the bacterium passes through the lymph nodes and blood vessels to all parts of the body but mostly it is found in lungs. Most infections do not show symptoms, known as latent tuberculosis, here they lives in a recessive form in the body. But as the immune system get weaker, TB bacteria become dominant. In their active state they even cause death of tissue to the organs they infect. It causes death if left untreated. As the bacteria that cause tuberculosis are transmitted through air, the disease is contagious. Generally it is evident that it causes to a person who are more exposed to person having TB on a regular basis. TB can infect to any organ of the body, but mostly it occurs in the lung which is known as pulmonary tuberculosis. Extrapulmonary TB occurs outside the lungs, even though extrapulmonary TB may occur simultaneously with pulmonary TB. There are many preliminary systems of TB such as chronic cough with blood-tinged sputum, fever, night sweats, loss of appetite, chills, weight loss and fatigue, nail clubbing etc. Characteristics of the pathogen: Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a small aerobic, non-motile bacillus. This pathogen has various special characteristics for its high lipid content. It divides in extremely slow rate as compared to other bacteria which usually divide in less than an hour, whereas M. tuberculosis usually divides every 16 to 20 hours. Its outer membrane is a lipid bilayer. When a Gram stain test is performed on this pathogen, it either stains Gram positive very weakly or does not retain stain because of its high lipid and mycolic acid content of its cell wall. MTB can survive in dry conditions and withstand weak disinfectants. It can develop naturally only within the host organism but can also be artificially cultured in laboratory. This complex pathogen includes other different TB causing mycobacteria: M. bovis, M. africanum, M. canetti, and M. microti. Among these types M. africanum is not widespread, but it is found in some parts of Africa. The bacterium of tuberculosis affects our body specifically when immune system gets weaker for some reasons or our body is previously overwhelmed by other infections, it is when that the disease occurs. It mostly affects the individuals with weak immune system such as infants, old people, pregnant women, HIV positive people, people living in unsanitary conditions, cancer patients and uncontrolled diabetes patients. When living in close contact with the person already suffering from TB. People consuming excessive alcohols, drug addicted people and individuals who weigh 10% less than recommended body weight. The treatment of TB is a long process and involves strict following doctors instruction. Even if the patients feel better the full course of medicine should be completed. The WHO had given various ways to control TB that is DOTS Directly Observed Treatment, Short Course. Some newer drugs like Bedaquiline, Delaminid and PA-824 are being treated in various clinics all over India. Prevention All of us are exposed to the pathogen of TB but only individuals with less immunity in the body seem to be affected by the disease. Therefore, keeping a healthy body is the primary way to avoid it. Some of the preventions are below: All new born infant should be given the Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine to protect against TB. Keep immunity high Maintain good hygiene Early diagnosis is the preliminary way to lessen the number of deaths due to TB. Function Of Target Enzyme HSAD The main cause of death through this disease is the pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis which is spread all over the world. It was virtually vanished with the help of antibiotics developed in 1950s, but the disease has reappeared eventually with new forms. Increasing prevalence of multidrug resistant organisms means prioritizing identification of targets for antituberculars. For survival of the microphage 2-hydroxy-6-oxo-6-phenylhexa-2,4-dienoate hydrolase (HsaD), part of the cholesterol metabolism operon, is essential. The C-C bond hydrolase, HsaD, has a serine protease-like catalytic triad. The role of cholesterol is important in the infection of M.tuberculosis which is becoming increasingly prominent. Cholesterol is essential for phagocytosis of M.tuberculosis by macrophage (Peyron et al., 2000) and also play a main role as an energy source for the bacterial survival in the macrophage (Van der Geize et al., 2007). Gene deletion mutants of HsaC and HsaD show that for the survival of the macrophage these enzymes are necessary (Rangarajan et al., 2005). A subfamily of / hydrolases HsaD is part of the meta-clevage product (MCP) hydrolase class of enzymes (Lack et al., 2008). HsaD catalyses the cleavage of 4,9-DHSA within the cholesterol metabolism reaction (Van der Geize et al., 2007). There are three types of inhibitors verified for activity against HsaD. The largest group is the serine protease inhibitors. Many covalent inhibitors, for e.g., phenylmethylsulphonyl fluoride (PMSF), were tested alongwith non-covalent inhibitors, e.g., benzamidine. Acetylcholinesterases are members of the / hydrolase family and catalyse its reactions via a serine protease-like catalytic triad (Shafferman et al., 1992). A range of acetylcholinesterase-specific inhibitors were also verified, e.g., neostigmine. Humans having a structural homologue of HsaD called monoglyceride lipase (MGL). It shares the whole fold as HsaD and also acts via a serine protease-like catalytic triad, like acetylcholinesterases. A number of MGL-specific inhibitors were verified, e.g., cholesterol-like pristimerin (King et al., 2009). It is said that similar inhibitors were favoured by both of the enzymes because of the hydrophobic nature of the physiological substrates of MGL and HsaD. Spectroscopic Information From (IR, H-NMR And C-NMR) Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is the most preferred way for the metabolic analysis of bio-fluids due to its higher reproducibility, non-destructiveness, non-selectivity in metabolite detection, and the capability to directly quantify multiple classes of metabolites. Tuberculosis (TB) which is a chronic inflammatory disease followed by multisystem involvement, causes metabolic derangements in affected patients. To explore the metabolic profile of sera from TB patients a combined multivariate pattern recognition (PR) analytical techniques with 1H NMR spectroscopy was done. A total of 77 serum samples was collected from patients with TB (n=38) and healthy controls (n=39) were examined. TB patients were distinguished from controls and creating a TB-specific metabolite profile by Orthogonal partial least-squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA). In concentration between the two groups a total of 17 metabolites were different specifically. Serum samples of TB patients were characterized by high concentrations of 1- methyl histidine, acetoacetate, acetone, glutamate, glutamine, isoleucine, actate, lysine, nicotinate, phenylalanine, pyruvate, and tyrosine, along with low concentrations of alanine, formate, glysine, glycerolphosphocholine and low density lipoprotein relative to control subjects. This study shows that metabolic profile of sera of TB patients and shows that NMR-based methods can be separated from TB patients from healthy controls. NMR-based metabolomics has the ability to provide the best device of TB diagnosis or with therapeutic monitoring and could add the disease understanding mechanisms better. Rationale Behind Spectroscopic Assignments With 2d NMR The entire structure of triglycosyl diacyl phenol phthiocerol of the TB bacterium was clear using the 2D -IH-NMR spectroscopy, together wih its configuration of sugar residues, composition, arrangements and linkage sites of the trisaccharide and appearance of variants in the lipid moiety. Through analysis of anomeric proton resonances IH-NMR spectroscopy has been widely used as rapid, sensitive, quantitative and non-destructive to determine the sugar composition of mycobacterial mycosides. To deciphered and provide primary and secondary structural data by scalar-correlated and dipolar-correlated spectra overlapping envelopes of resonances of an oligosaccharide is allowed by 2D-NMR.
